This position holds a key role on the ACT multidisciplinary team, and the right candidate will have experience as a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental illness and be well along in the recovery process, and must have a willingness to use and share his or her personal, practical experience, knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit the team and its clients. This position will be a fully integrated team member and will provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and persistence required by clients. The Peer Specialist will provide peer counseling and mentoring to clients while helping team members to better understand and empathize with each client’s unique and subjective experience and perceptions.
 
Job requires home visits and documentation of all work with consumers. Must have ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision. Will provide outreach, advocacy, skills training and support to consumers of an community-based homeless outreach program.
 
Position is currently 20 hours per week with a possible increase of hours at a later time.
 
 
Requirements include strong team and collaboration skills, as well as strong time management and organizational skills. Experience as a consumer of mental health services for severe and persistent mental illness who is well in the recovery process. Bachelors Degree required and minimum experience includes two years of paid or volunteer work with adults with severe and persistent mental illness and demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses as well as respect for their rights and personal preferences in treatment. Good oral and written communication skills are also required. Must have a valid GA driver's license, good driving record, reliable transportation and liability insurance.
